EMILYs List Endorses Sara Jacobs for Congress in California’s 49th District
December 21, 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today EMILYs List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Sara Jacobs for Congress in California’s 49th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Sara Jacobs is a passionate, energetic leader who isn’t afraid to tackle big problems. Whether it’s working in key policy positions for the U.S. State Department under the Obama Administration, at UNICEF, and at the United Nations or founding a nonprofit focused on measuring and expanding students’ access to the internet and improving education around the world, Sara will deliver a fresh, new approach to government that creates economic opportunity and works for Southern California families.”
“Meanwhile, Congressman Darrell Issa has failed to stand up for Southern Californians, instead voting for President Donald Trump’s agenda 95% of the time. Sara Jacobs brings the expertise and a fresh, new approach that Southern California families deserve from their leaders in Congress – and EMILYs List is proud to support her.”
Sara is challenging vulnerable Republican incumbent Darrell Issa — an extremist who has worked to advance his party’s dangerous agenda that hurts the working families he was elected to serve. Our path to taking back the House runs straight through this district, where Hillary Clinton outperformed Donald Trump by more than seven points and Issa won by a razor-thin margin in 2016. Earlier this year, EMILYs List placed Issa “On Notice” as one of their top targets for 2018. Sara is a dynamic leader running a strong campaign in this Southern California community where she grew up and has deep roots — and she is the only candidate who has what it takes to take Issa on in this must-win fight.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
