EMILYs List Endorses Sara Gideon for U.S. Senate in Maine

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Sara Gideon for the U.S. Senate in Maine. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Sara Gideon is a proven leader and dedicated public servant who will be an excellent U.S. Senator. As Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, she led the implementation of legislation aimed at helping working families and addressing the opioid crisis. She achieved this in a then-divided state government, proving that she rises above partisan lines in order to best serve the people of Maine. She’s committed to continuing to fight for Maine’s working families in the U.S. Senate.

“Sara is running against Republican Senator Susan Collins, who has consistently voted against the best interests of Maine’s women and families. Along with her fellow Republicans, Collins has not only voted to confirm two of President Trump’s anti-choice justices to the Supreme Court, but she also voted for tax cuts for the wealthy at the expense of Mainers. Sara is committed to protecting women’s rights and EMILYs List is proud to stand alongside her to win this race.”

Sara Gideon is serving her fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives and second term as Speaker of the House, a role in which she presides over the chamber and oversees its legislative agenda. Prior to running for the state legislature, Sara served on her local town council and had a successful career as an advertising account executive for a national newspaper. Sara and her husband live in Freeport with their three children.
