EMILYs List Endorses New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for Reelection

May 22, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for reelection. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Governor Hochul for reelection. She has been a groundbreaking leader, championing the expansion of reproductive rights in New York and tackling the maternal mortality crisis head-on. As Trump and his billionaire cronies work overtime to wreak havoc on the economy and working families, her steady, trailblazing leadership has put money back in New Yorkers’ pockets. We know she’ll continue putting New Yorkers first—and we’re proud to stand with her in this fight.”

Governor Kathy Hochul was born into a blue-collar Irish Catholic family in Buffalo, where public service was a way of life. She began her career on the Hamburg Town Board, later serving as Erie County Clerk. Backed by EMILYs List, she won a seat in Congress in 2011, where she fought to protect Medicare, defend the Affordable Care Act, and create jobs for veterans. Elected lieutenant governor in 2014 and 2018, she visited all 62 counties each year to ensure every New Yorker had a voice. In 2021, she made history as the first woman to lead New York and now governs the largest state ever led by a woman. A champion for reproductive rights, she signed laws protecting abortion providers, expanded access to care, and launched the nation’s first paid prenatal leave policy.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Over nearly 40 years, EMILYs List has raised nearly $950 million to help Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the most impactful independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 192 women to the House, 29 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,600 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
