EMILYs List Endorses Michelle Vallejo for Election to Texas’ 15th Congressional District

August 1, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Michelle Vallejo for election to Texas’ 15th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Michelle Vallejo has dedicated her career to improving the lives of South Texans and addressing the challenges they face. As a businesswoman and community leader, she has been a champion for the women, working families, and small businesses that make the 15th Congressional District thrive. Texans are currently living under some of the most draconian and extreme anti-abortion laws in the country, and it is urgent that we elect Democratic pro-choice women like Vallejo who will fight in Congress to restore and protect reproductive freedom. EMILYs List is proud to endorse Vallejo in her run for this critical seat, and we know that she will be a pivotal voice for her community in the U.S. House.”

Michelle Vallejo is a businesswoman and community leader running to represent Texas’ 15th Congressional District. Vallejo, whose parents immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico as children, comes from a big family of farm workers and business owners. After she attended Columbia University to study political science and history, she returned to Alton, Texas to help her father run the flea market that her family has operated for almost 25 years. Seeing the importance of community and entrepreneurship, Vallejo co-founded Hustle+Socialize, an annual conference to support and empower minority women in business in South Texas. Vallejo was the 2022 Democratic nominee for the 15th District, and she is running again to fight for working class South Texans. “All along la frontera and throughout South Texas, we look out for each other because we know that no one else will,” she has said. When elected, she will give her community a powerful new voice in Congress.
