FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Marni von Wilpert for California’s 48th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Councilmember Marni von Wilpert has a proven track record of taking on the most powerful to deliver for San Diego. From standing up for workers’ rights to holding polluters, corporate price gougers and the opioid industry accountable, Marni has shown she will take on the tough fights. She is a battle-tested leader who has kept her community safe by banning the sale of untraceable ghost guns, securing funding for affordable housing, and fighting to save taxpayer money. Marni flipped San Diego’s most conservative council district, and we are confident that she can win again in this critical race. We are proud to endorse her for California’s 48th Congressional District.”

This is part of EMILYs List first round of endorsements in key California Congressional races. After the passage of Prop. 50 in California, the 48th Congressional District shifted from “Solid Republican” to “Toss-Up,” making it essential to flipping the U.S. House of Representatives.

Marni von Wilpert is a San Diego City councilmember, lifelong public servant who served overseas in the Peace Corps, and former Deputy civil attorney, who flipped San Diego’s most conservative council district blue — and she’s ready to do it again in Congress. She’s been a fierce defender of workers’ rights and served as counsel on the House Education and Labor Committee, where she helped write the PRO Act. She has fought hard for San Diego citizens protecting them against price gouging, leading efforts for safer communities, and fighting for working families. She has secured resources for first responders, protected communities from wildfires, advanced gun violence prevention, and expanded access to lifesaving opioid treatment. Now, Marni is running for Congress to tackle the skyrocketing cost of living, protect reproductive freedom, defend LGBTQ+ rights, and make Washington work for working families — not just the wealthy few.
