EMILYs List Endorses Laura Gillen for Election to New York’s 4th Congressional District

June 28, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Laura Gillen for election to New York’s 4th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Laura Gillen is a proven leader for Long Islanders and a dedicated pro-choice champion, and EMILYs List is proud to announce our endorsement of her today. Although the vast majority of New Yorkers support abortion rights, New York’s 4th Congressional District is currently under the thumb of an anti-choice extremist who has sided with Republicans who want to pass a national abortion ban against the will of voters. It is absolutely critical that we flip this seat blue in the next election, and we know that Laura Gillen’s passion and experience fighting for New York’s women and families make her the right candidate for the job.”

Laura Gillen is a mom, former Hempstead Town supervisor, and former litigator running to represent New York’s 4th Congressional District. In 2017, Gillen was elected to serve as Hempstead Town supervisor, charged with managing America’s largest township, her birthplace and the township where she is raising her family. Gillen graduated from Georgetown University and New York University’s School of Law, after which she began practicing commercial litigation. Gillen has also participated in a pro bono program where she represented victims of domestic violence. As town supervisor of the largest township in the United States, Gillen worked with leaders from both parties to invest more than $50 million to fix roads, lower taxes, support veterans, and pass good governance measures. She currently lives in Rockville Centre with her husband and four children.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
