WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed LaMonica McIver for New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to endorse LaMonica McIver for New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. Her public service track record proves that she will fight to protect New Jerseyans’ fundamental freedoms and stand up against anti-choice extremists in Congress. McIver is passionate about helping families, mentoring the youth, and investing in her community. We look forward to standing with her through this election and watching her become the first woman and Black woman to represent this District.”
LaMonica McIver is a native of Newark, New Jersey. She has dedicated her life to public service by nurturing and empowering her community’s next generation. She earned an English literature degree from Bloomfield College and a master’s in educational leadership and policy from Seton Hall University. In 2012, McIver founded Newark G.A.L.S., Inc., an organization dedicated to mentoring female leaders of tomorrow. Under her leadership, Newark G.A.L.S has mentored over 3,000 young women through its transformative initiatives. McIver was elected to the Newark Municipal Council in 2018, where she was the youngest woman ever elected. Currently, she serves as council president and her mission is to champion the needs and aspirations of every Central Ward resident. McIver has fought to protect reproductive freedoms and believes that everyone has the constitutional right to choose. If elected, she will become the first woman and Black woman to represent District 10.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
