EMILYs List Endorses Kissy Coakley for Election to Minnesota’s House District 49A
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Minnetonka city councilwoman Kissy Coakley for Minnesota state House District 49A. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Kissy Coakley has worked tirelessly for her community on the Minnetonka City Council since 2019. Her passion for fighting for the women of Minnesota through domestic and sexual violence prevention is one of the many reasons why EMILYs List is proud to be standing by her side during this election. She will undoubtedly contribute to the work already accomplished in Minnesota, including protecting reproductive rights and abortion access.”
Krissy Coakley is a public servant and Minnetonka, Minnesota city councilwoman who fights for community safety, mental health support, domestic violence and substance abuse prevention, quality education, and accessible health care. She is also the founder of Kissy’s Stay Put Services, a nonprofit that serves women who have been incarcerated and experienced domestic and sexual abuse. Coakley made history in 2019 as the first African American woman to serve on the Minnetonka City Council. This trailblazer has over 15 years of experience as a domestic and sexual violence advocate and a re-entry case manager and is an advocate for women affected by the disparities and injustices within the criminal justice system.
Coakley joins eight other Democratic pro-choice women endorsed by EMILYs List for the Minnesota state legislature this cycle: Kim Hicks (MN-HD25A), Kristin Bahner (MN-HD37B), Lucy Rehm (MN-HD48B), Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn (MN-HD49B), Mary Frances Clardy (MN-HD53A), Jess Hanson (MN-HD55A), Kaela Berg (MN-HD55B), and Kristi Pursell (MN-HD58A).
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
