EMILYs List Endorses Kendra Horn in Oklahoma’s 5th District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kendra Horn for Congress in Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Kendra Horn is a fifth-generation Oklahoman whose experience standing up for women and families positions her to be a strong advocate for them in Congress. After leading two nonprofit organizations that encouraged women’s leadership, including running for office, Kendra decided to step up and run herself – and we’re so glad that she did. She is committed to improving education, protecting access to health care, and investing in the more rural parts of the 5th District that have sometimes been ignored. When elected, Kendra will be a voice for all Oklahomans she represents.
“Kendra is running against Congressman Steve Russell, who has been advancing the dangerous Republican agenda at the expense of the families in the district he’s supposed to be representing. Kendra’s strong campaign aims to bring power back to the people in the district, not special interests in Washington, DC. She is fighting tirelessly for the Oklahomans whose voices have gone unheard. EMILYs List is proud to be standing with her to flip this seat and flip the House.”
Kendra Horn was raised in a family with a strong commitment to service and the Sooner State values that guide her today. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa, and then went on to earn her law degree to make a difference for others. Kendra has experience working in the aerospace industry, Oklahoma’s second largest public sector employer, and has served as an executive director of two nonprofits dedicated to supporting women’s leadership. Last year she stepped up to run for office herself to fight for her community as a first-time candidate. When elected, Kendra will work tirelessly to solve the toughest problems facing Oklahoma working families.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
