EMILYs List Endorses Kelly Morrison for Election to Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District

February 6, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed state Sen. Kelly Morrison for election to Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“State Sen. Kelly Morrison came out of the gate ready to fight when she was elected in 2018, and she has not stopped fighting since. Morrison has passed dozens of bills that have changed the course of Minnesotans lives and she’s ready to go to Congress to continue that work for Minnesotans and all Americans. EMILYs List is honored to endorse Morrison today just as we have in her last three runs for office, and we are confident that her dedicated and skillful leadership will be a critical part of ensuring a true Democratic pro-choice majority in the U.S. House.”

State Sen. Kelly Morrison is an obstetrician gynecologist and sixth-generation Minnesotan who currently represents the state’s 45th Senate District. She first ran for office in 2018, was elected to the state House, and served two terms before being elected to the state Senate in 2022, flipping both seats from red to blue. She has had EMILYs List’s support every step of the way. In the state legislature she has been a prolific fighter for Minnesotans, helping to pass over 80 bills in her five years of service. As an OBGYN, Morrison has seen firsthand the difference affordable, accessible reproductive health care can make, and she knows how critical it is for every Minnesotan to be able to afford the care and medication they need. In Congress, she will fight for our rights and defend our freedoms, just like she has in the state legislature. Morrison is a mother of three and lives with her husband John in Deephaven, Minnesota.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
