EMILY's List Endorses Kathy Hochul for Re-Election to Lieutenant Governor of New York

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kathy Hochul for re-election to lieutenant governor of New York. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul has been a progressive champion New York families can count on. Kathy helped lead the way in New York’s fight for a desperately needed minimum wage increase and one of the most generous paid family leave policies in the country. Lieutenant Governor Hochul has tirelessly defended access to affordable health care, supported LGBTQ rights, and criticized Republican efforts to pass massive tax breaks for the wealthiest few. EMILYs List is proud to endorse Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul’s campaign for re-election.”

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul has served as New York State’s 77th lieutenant governor since being elected in 2014. As lieutenant governor, Hochul is the president of the New York state Senate and chairs 10 Regional Economic Development Councils.

Prior to her election as lieutenant governor, Kathy Hochul served as congresswoman for New York’s 26th District from 2011 to 2013. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Homeland Security Committee, then-Congresswoman Hochul traveled to Afghanistan and sponsored legislation to create job opportunities for returning veterans. Hochul also previously served as a county clerk and city council member in Hamburg, New York.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
