EMILYs List Endorses Kathleen Clyde for Ohio Secretary of State
October 23, 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, announced their endorsement of Kathleen Clyde for Ohio secretary of state. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Kathleen Clyde has been a strong advocate for and defender of voters and voting rights throughout her career. In the legislature, she authored legislation to create automatic voter registration and has pushed to restore and lengthen early voting days for Ohioans. Kathleen has consistently shown that she believes in the values of fairness and democracy by sticking up for working families, defending union workers, protecting small businesses, and championing equal pay. We have no doubt that she will use her experience to protect and empower voters, which is why EMILY's List is so proud to endorse her.”
Kathleen Clyde is an attorney who has served in the Ohio House of Representatives since 2011. Prior to serving as a state representative, Kathleen worked as deputy legal counsel to the speaker of the Ohio House and as an election official during the 2008 presidential election in Franklin County.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
