EMILYs List Endorses Justice Christine Donohue for Retention to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania

June 12, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Justice Christine Donohue for retention to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“State Supreme Courts play a critical role in protecting our rights and are one of the most effective tools we have to stop Trump’s attacks on our freedoms. In Pennsylvania, the court’s majority is at stake, and we are proud to endorse Justice Christine Donohue for retention. She has consistently proven to interpret the law in a fair and impartial manner standing up for election integrity and the rights of all Pennsylvanians. A Republican-controlled state Supreme Court would put reproductive rights at risk and undermine the foundation of free and fair elections. We need committed leaders like Justice Donohue on the bench and  we are proud to stand with her in this fight.”

Justice Christine Donohue has spent her career upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all Pennsylvanians. Elected to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 2015, she brought with her decades of experience as a Superior Court judge and 27 years as a respected civil trial attorney. Known for her integrity and deep commitment to justice, she has mentored the next generation of attorneys by launching initiatives to expand courtroom opportunities for young lawyers and teaching legal ethics at Duquesne University’s law school. Her legal excellence has earned her repeated recognition in Best Lawyers in America, Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, and among the “Top 50” attorneys in Pittsburgh.

Now, Justice Donohue’s retention is critical to preserving the court’s current majority and its role as a safeguard for voting rights, reproductive freedom, and fair legislative maps. If Republicans succeed in flipping the court, Pennsylvanians could face rollbacks to ballot access, threats to abortion protections, and unchecked gerrymandering that undermines democracy for years to come.
