FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Jessica Swartz for Michigan’s 4th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Jessica Swartz for Michigan’s 4th Congressional District. She will provide common-sense leadership to deliver results for Michiganders. Swartz has been vocal about her commitment to protecting reproductive rights, including sharing her IVF story to call out Republican attacks. She is ready to defeat Republican extremist Rep. Bill Huizenga this November and fight for our reproductive rights in Congress.”

Jessica Swartz was born and raised in West Michigan by middle class parents who instilled in her the value of hard work. She attended Michigan State University and later American University Washington College of Law. After graduation, Swartz worked as an appellate attorney for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She was instrumental in making sure veterans got the benefits they were promised by cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse. Swartz also worked in Western Michigan University as the deputy general counsel and specialized in free speech cases. She has also worked to stop gerrymandering with the nonpartisan organization Voters Not Politicians. Swartz is ready to represent West Michiganders and fight to protect abortion rights, pass common-sense gun safety legislation, and grow our economy. She is running for Congress to defend our democracy and ensure that every American has the opportunity to live an equitable life.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
