EMILYs List Endorses Hiral Tipirneni in Arizona's 8th District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Dr. Hiral Tipirneni for Congress in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“We stood with Dr. Hiral Tipirneni when she came so close to flipping this seat in April's special election, and are proud to be back in the fight with her. At just three years old, Hiral immigrated to the United States from India. After her own experience with childhood illness, she was inspired to pursue a medical career. Having served her community as an emergency room physician and cancer researcher for more than 20 years, Hiral understands the difficulties many Americans face when attempting to navigate the current health care system and will fight to make sure every family in the 8th District has access to quality affordable health care.
“On the other hand, Rep. Debbie Lesko has spent her short time in Congress aligning herself with the far-right members of her party and supporting an agenda that hurts working-class families. The people of Arizona deserve better and Hiral has what it takes to take on Lesko — EMILY's List is proud to endorse her candidacy.”
Dr. Hiral Tipirneni is a doctor, a health care advocate, and a dedicated community leader running for Congress to fight for Arizona working families. After serving as chief resident of the University of Michigan’s Emergency Medicine program, Hiral and her husband, an orthopedic surgeon, chose to make their home and raise a family in Phoenix. A community leader and innovation advocate, Hiral served as the lead organizer for a Northwest Valley TEDx event, and serves on the boards of local nonprofits. Hiral ran a strong campaign in her special election, and Debbie Lesko only won by a narrow margin even though the GOP poured money into what should have been a safe seat easy to defend. The stakes are even higher in November, and Hiral has what it takes to win this rematch and help take back the House.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
