October 26, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Cherelle Parker for mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Parker joins 22 currently endorsed mayoral candidates as part of EMILYs List’s Madam Mayor program. EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Cherelle Parker has spent her life serving the city of Philadelphia, and there is no candidate more qualified to be its mayor. EMILYs List has been proud to support Parker over the years during her time as a state representative, and her work on the city council to deliver tangible results for her community speaks for itself. We know Parker will take the same dedication and passion she has shown for her entire career to the mayor’s office, and we are honored to endorse her today.”

Cherelle Parker was a Philadelphia city council member and former 10-year state representative who has been serving Pennsylvanians since she was a high school intern for Councilwoman Marian B. Tasco. In the state legislature, Parker worked to fund public schools, economically support working families, and expand resources and protections for victims of sexual assault. On the city council, she has led the charge to reduce crime, raise the minimum wage for city employees, and support neighborhood beautification. Parker was first endorsed by EMILYs List in 2005 and, if elected, would be the first woman mayor in Philadelphia’s history.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
