EMILYs List Endorses Anita Malik in Arizona’s 6th District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Anita Malik for Congress in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Anita Malik will bring much-needed fresh leadership to Congress. As an entrepreneur and job creator, she is running for Congress to expand economic opportunity for Arizona’s working families. She is dedicated to preserving and broadening access to quality, affordable health care – a commitment that was affirmed when her toddler son had a health scare. Anita will stand up for Arizonans whose voices have gone unheard by lawmakers in Washington, D.C.
“Anita is running against Republican Congressman David Schweikert, who is facing a wide-ranging ethics probe for allegations of misspending official funds and receiving illegal campaign contributions. Schweikert’s vulnerability makes this district a prime pickup opportunity, and Anita has what it takes to flip it from red to blue. Let’s show Anita the full support of the EMILYs List community to help elect this champion for Arizona working families to Congress.”
Anita Malik’s parents immigrated to the United States from India, and when she was seven, her family settled in Arizona. Anita pursued degrees in computer information systems and finance from Arizona State University, then received her master’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern California. Anita went on to work for a technology company and for a local newspaper, later becoming deputy director of Arizona State University’s Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism. An entrepreneur, Anita founded a national publication focusing on pan Asian-American issues. Most recently, she worked as chief operating officer of a content technology company, helping develop effective digital media marketing strategies. Anita lives in Scottsdale with her husband, two sons, and two dogs.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
