EMILYs List Endorses Amy Kennedy in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Amy Kennedy in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse Amy Kennedy in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District. Amy is an education leader and a champion for equality who has dedicated her career to empowering those around her. A mother of five and a mental health advocate, she will champion the issues that matter most to New Jersey’s working families. We are proud to stand with Amy as she challenges GOP incumbent Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who pledged his “undying support” for Donald Trump after switching political parties. EMILYs List placed Rep. Van Drew “On Notice” for voting against women’s reproductive freedoms, and we look forward to helping Amy defeat him this fall.”
Amy Kennedy was born in Atlantic City and grew up in Pleasantville and Absecon, New Jersey as the daughter of two public school teachers. An educator by training, Amy has more than a decade of experience working in public schools in New Jersey. She serves as the education director of The Kennedy Forum where she pursues partnerships and collaborations that emphasize evidence-based research and programming to facilitate policy change in the areas of education and mental health. Amy and her husband, former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, live in South Jersey with their five children. She serves on several boards, including Mental Health America, a leading national advocacy organization, and Parity.org, which promotes gender parity at the highest levels of business. When elected, Amy will bring new leadership to New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
