EMILYs List Congratulates State Sen. Kelly Morrison on Her Election to Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates State Sen. Kelly Morrison on her election to Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate state Sen. Kelly Morrison on her election to Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District. State Sen. Morrison has been an extraordinary force in Minnesota’s state Legislature since 2018. She has successfully passed dozens of bills that have improved the lives of Minnesotans, and we are excited to see her continue that great work in Congress. As an OB-GYN, she is a staunch supporter of reproductive freedoms and we know she will fight to restore our reproductive rights in Congress.”
When she is sworn in, Morrison will be the only pro-choice OB-GYN serving in Congress. EMILYs List has supported Morrison since her first election in 2018.
Morrison has a deep-rooted understanding of the values important to fellow Minnesotans. As a practicing obstetrician gynecologist for over 20 years, Morrison understands the critical need for reproductive freedom. She also sees how important it is for patients to have affordable and accessible healthcare. Her life experience has given her knowledge not only about patients and children, but the community at large. Morrison has fought to make Minnesota safer, improve access to healthcare by addressing racial and geographical disparities, and much more. Her ability to turn her compassion for people into effective legislation and leadership is noticed not only by her constituents, but by groups like Minnesota Psychological Association and National Alliance on Mental Illness, both of which have honored her with Legislator of the Year awards.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
