EMILYs List Congratulates Rep. Mikie Sherrill on Her Primary Victory in New Jersey Governor’s Race

This is a time for tough leaders, and Mikie Sherrill is as tough as they come. Despite relentless attacks and a crowded field, Mikie never lost focus. Her grit, determination, and proven record of taking on hard fights demonstrate why she is the leader New Jersey needs right now. As governors stand on the front lines, serving as a critical line of defense against Trump’s reckless agenda, Mikie Sherrill is ready to do whatever it takes to stand up and deliver for the Garden State. Primary opponents outspent Mikie 6-to-1 and Republicans attempted to influence the race, as they recognized her as the toughest candidate to beat in November. Mikie was able to withstand those attacks because voters understood that she is the best candidate to win the general election and the right leader for New Jersey. She is ready to continue to build on her winning coalition to secure victory in November.
Mikie Sherrill is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, former Navy helicopter commander, former federal prosecutor, and the current U.S. representative for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. In 2018, Rep. Sherrill unseated the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and flipped New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. While in Congress, Rep. Sherrill has secured the federal funding needed to move forward the largest infrastructure project in American history. She has also proven to be a champion for reproductive freedom, working to protect Title X funding, emergency abortion care, and access to reproductive care for servicewomen and military families. In 2023, she was named the most effective member of the New Jersey congressional delegation by the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking.
