EMILYs List Congratulates Rep. Hillary Scholten on Her Reelection to Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Rep. Hillary Scholten on her reelection to Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate Rep. Hillary Scholten on her reelection. West Michigan saw Rep. Scholten’s commitment to community service and addressing injustice, and reaffirmed today that she is the right person for the job. She is a champion of reproductive rights, and we look forward to her continued leadership in standing up to extremists and defending Michiganders’ freedoms.”
Rep. Hillary Scholten made history in 2022 as the first woman to represent West Michigan in the House of Representatives. Born and raised in West Michigan by an elementary school teacher and a local reporter, her passion for service was shaped by her Christian faith and the injustice and poverty faced by her community members. She became a social worker, attended law school, and worked for the Department of Justice under President Obama. After returning home in 2017, she joined the Michigan Immigrants Rights Center to combat the unjust policies of the new administration. Scholten serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and the House Small Business Committee, focusing on strengthening the workforce and growing the local economy. She and her husband live with their two sons in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the same neighborhood where her grandparents grew up.
EMILYs List has supported Rep. Scholten since her first race in 2020.
The EMILYs List community also contributed nearly $60,000 to Hillary Scholten this cycle.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
