EMILYs List Congratulates Rep. Angie Craig on Her Reelection to Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Rep. Angie Craig on her reelection to Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Rep. Angie Craig on her reelection. Rep. Craig has worked tirelessly fighting for reproductive freedoms, defending working families, and advocating for affordable health care. As the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Minnesota, she has been a prominent voice for the rights of all Americans and we look forward toall her future accomplishments in Congress.”
EMILYs List has endorsed Rep. Angie Craig in each of her elections since she first ran for Congress in 2016. Rep. Craig is the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Minnesota, and is the first openly lesbian mother and grandmother in Congress.
Rep. Craig knows how important it is to fight for families and workers because she sees that some of the opportunities she and her family had growing up are dissipating for American families today. She was inspired by her mother’s determination and perseverance to pursue her education while also working two jobs to afford college. Working first in a newspaper and eventually leading a workforce of 16,000, Rep. Craig saw how her hard work paid off. Rep. Craig’s dedication to workers didn’t start after she was elected; as a former Fortune 500 executive, she created jobs and pushed for diversity in the workplace. Additionally, her fight for custody of her adopted son led to a landmark ruling that paved the way for other LGBTQ+ couples to be able to adopt in the United States. These real life experiences influence her work in Congress today. Rep. Craig fights for reproductive rights, the wellbeing of women and families, workers’ rights, and equality for all. Her work and dedication to progressive causes is vital in this critical time.
The EMILYs List community also contributed over $102,000 for Angie Craig this cycle.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
