FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Mayor Tishaura Jones on advancing to the general election in her reelection bid for St. Louis mayor. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Mayor Tishaura Jones as she advances to the general election. Mayor Jones has a proven track record of bettering the lives of St. Louisans, from tackling poverty and reducing crime to creating jobs and fighting to protect reproductive freedom. We are confident this groundbreaking mayor will continue to deliver and we are thrilled to support her in this reelection.”
Mayor Tishaura Jones earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University and a master’s degree from the Saint Louis University School of Public Health. She began her public service career in 2002, when she was appointed as Democratic committeewoman of the 8th Ward in the city of St. Louis. She served two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives, and was the first Black woman in Missouri history to hold the position of assistant minority floor leader. Additionally, in 2013 she became the first Black woman elected treasurer of St. Louis, and in 2021 made history again as the first Black woman elected mayor. As mayor, she has fought tirelessly for reproductive rights, including signing legislation that would use federal funding to help residents access abortion care, as well as postpartum and lactation support under the state’s near total abortion ban.
Since 2015, EMILYs List has supported Mayor Jones in previous local elections.
