EMILYs List Congratulates Maggie Hassan on Her Reelection to the United States Senate
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Maggie Hassan on her reelection to the United States Senate. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“Sen. Maggie Hassan’s dedication to the people of New Hampshire is unparalleled, and she has served them faithfully for many years. Her victory over radical anti-choice extremism today means that the people of New Hampshire will once again have a true pro-choice champion fighting for their rights in the Senate, and that all Americans will be better protected from onslaughts against their reproductive freedom. EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate Hassan on her reelection, and we know she has what it takes to stand up to any and all attacks on our fundamental rights in her next term.”
Sen. Maggie Hassan was elected to represent New Hampshire in the United States Senate in 2016. Hassan got her start in public service by advocating to ensure that children like her son Ben, who experiences severe disabilities, would be fully included in their communities and have the same opportunities that all parents want for their children. Hassan, an attorney, went on to serve for three terms in the New Hampshire state Senate and as the 81st governor of New Hampshire, fighting to expand opportunity for all Granite Staters. She is the second woman in American history to be elected both governor and United States senator, along with fellow New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.
Women Vote, EMILY's List's independent expenditure arm, invested nearly $2.7 million in partnership with Senate Majority PAC in a television and digital program illustrating Don Bolduc’s dangerous positions on abortion.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
