Julia Brownley has been a member of the EMILYs List community since 2005 when she first ran for California State Assembly. After serving for more than a decade on Santa Monica-Malibu’s School Board, Brownley put her education policy experience to work in the State Assembly, cutting school administration costs and eliminating red tape for qualified teachers. Her bills to streamline child abuse investigations and expand maternity health care coverage have helped countless women and families throughout California. Brownley received recognition of her hard work from the California School Boards Association and was named “2010 Legislator of the Year.” She was elected to the 26th Congressional District for the first time in 2012, and ever since Brownley has fought tirelessly for quality education, reproductive health, and a safe environment.
