EMILYs List Congratulates Jill Tokuda on Her Victory in Hawai'i’s 2nd Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Jill Tokuda on her victory in Hawai'i’s 2nd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“Jill Tokuda’s dedication to the people of Hawai'i and to children and working families will make her an excellent representative for the people of Hawai'i’s 2nd Congressional District. During her time in the state Senate she championed education, fiscal responsibility, and reproductive health care, and EMILYs List is proud to congratulate her on her victory because we have no doubt that she will continue to do so in Congress.”
Former state Sen. Jill Tokuda is a devoted public servant with a record of distinguished leadership. Tokuda was endorsed by EMILYs List in 2006 in her initial run for Hawai'i’s state Senate, where she proudly served for 12 years. During her time in office, she chaired the Ways and Means, Labor, Education, Higher Education, and Agriculture and Hawai'ian Affairs committees while also serving as majority whip. Tokuda is a champion for Hawai'i’s students and families: in office, she prioritized Hawai'i’s children and their families by expanding access to preschool and college education. She is also skilled at managing budgets: after her time in the state Senate, she took the lead working with state and county officials to track billions in federal funds coming into Hawai'i for pandemic relief. She lives with her husband, Kyle, and their two sons in a multi-generational household in Kaneohe, Hawai'i, where their sons attend the same public schools as Tokuda and her husband did.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
