WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Mayor Emily Larson on advancing to the general election for mayor of Duluth, Minnesota. Larson is one of 14 women endorsed so far in EMILYs List’s Madam Mayor program, which was recently launched to support Democratic pro-choice women running for and serving in local executive office. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“Mayor Emily Larson is a shining example of the way that Democratic pro-choice mayors can not only champion reproductive freedom but also work to make their cities more just, equitable, and affordable for all. EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate Larson on advancing to the general election for Duluth’s mayor today, and we look forward to continuing to support her campaign as she seeks another term being a leader that the people of Duluth can trust to defend their rights and deliver results.”
Emily Larson has been mayor of Duluth, Minnesota since 2016. She has been a resident of Duluth since the age of 17 and was first elected to serve as an at-large Duluth City councilor from 2011 to 2015. As mayor, she has focused on addressing racial and economic disparities, championing affordable housing, fighting climate change, and growing the city’s economy. EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
