EMILYs List Congratulates Andrea Salinas on Her Reelection to Oregon’s 6th Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Rep. Andrea Salinas on her reelection to Oregon’s 6th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Rep. Andrea Salinas on her reelection to Oregon’s 6th Congressional District. Rep. Salinas is a powerful leader who fights to protect our natural resources, defend our fundamental freedoms, and make health care affordable. She will work tirelessly to restore our reproductive freedoms and stand up against anti-choice extremists. We look forward to watching Rep. Salinas continue her important work in Congress.”
Rep. Andrea Salinas is a proven leader who has dedicated her career to advancing justice and opportunity. Rep. Salinas’ father immigrated from Mexico and served in the Vietnam War, and she credits him with teaching her what it means to fight for your kids and for a better life. Rep. Salinas was the first person in her family to graduate from a four-year university, earning her degree from the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating, she began her career in politics. She worked as a congressional staffer for over a decade and then became an advocate for unions, environmental groups, and reproductive rights. She served as a state representative for three terms, taking on several leadership roles. In 2022, Rep. Salinas was elected to represent Oregon’s newly established 6th Congressional District. Oregon is home to a growing Latino population, but the state had never before elected a Latina to Congress until Rep. Salinas made history as one of the first with EMILYs List support.
The EMILYs List community also contributed nearly $295,000 to Andrea Salinas this cycle.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
