EMILYs List Applauds North Carolina Legislative Candidates’ Impressive Second Quarter Fundraising Totals
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to EMILYs List's North Carolina legislative candidates’ incredible second quarter fundraising totals from across the state, EMILYs List Vice President of Communications Christina Reynolds released the following statement:
“These numbers make it crystal clear – voters are backing pro-choice Democratic women in a big way as they outrun, outraise and outcampaign their Republican opponents. North Carolinians are making their choice known. They want leaders who will fight for public education, protect voting rights, and stand up for women’s access to reproductive health care. EMILYs List is proud to stand with these incredible leaders.”
As of Tuesday, 18 EMILYs List-endorsed candidates announced they had collectively raised more than $858,000 in the second quarter. Seventeen of their opponents, including 13 incumbents, raised just over $847,000.
Fourteen EMILYs List-endorsed candidates, including 12 women running for office for the first time, outraised their Republican opponents and the incumbents they are challenging.
That includes seven candidates who raised at least double* the amount of their opponents, in addition to Lisa Mathis (HD-51) and Cynthia Ball (HD-49) who raised nearly ten and twenty-eight times the amount of their opponents, respectively.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
