FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Justice Maggie Ellis and Judge Kristen Brauchle Hawkins for Texas state Supreme Court. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Justice Maggie Elllis and Judge Kristen Brauchle Hawkins for Texas Supreme Court. Maggie and Kristen have a proven track record of bringing fairness, humanity, and a deep commitment for their community to the courtroom, and we have no doubt that they will bring those same values to the Texas Supreme Court. Their election is critical in defending Texans’ constitutional rights, and we are thrilled to stand with them.”
Justice Maggie Ellis is a seventh generation Texan and has called Central Texas home for more than 40 years. She currently serves as a justice on the Texas Third Court of Appeals, where her election marked the first openly LGBTQ+ woman elected to a Texas appellate court. Through her legal work, Justice Maggie recognizes that behind every case file is a life and a family. Now, she is running to become the first woman chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court and protect Texans’ freedoms.
Judge Kristen Brauchle Hawkins is currently a judge on the 11th District Court. Raised in Texas by an immigrant mother and a fourth-generation Texan father. She was elected judge in 2016 and reelected in 2020. Judge Kristen believes that civility, professionalism, and respect are fundamental values that should be upheld in the legal profession. Now she is ready to take those same values to the Texas Supreme Court.
