Brian Kemp Finds Georgians Exercising Their Right to Vote “Concerning”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In leaked audio from a fundraiser on Friday evening, Brian Kemp tells a room full of supporters that Stacey Abrams' grassroots get-out-the-vote program continues to “concern” him, adding “especially if everybody uses and exercises their right to vote.” Christina Reynolds, vice president of communications at EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Kemp has only articulated what we already know to be true: that his path to victory relies on preventing Georgians from voting. Well, we're not going to let that happen. Stacey Abrams is running a people-driven operation in which all citizens are empowered to have their voices heard. It won't matter that Brian Kemp has refused to resign his taxpayer-funded position as overseer of elections, despite the fact that he is on the ballot. And it won't matter that he is actively working to make it harder to vote, because Georgians are going to send him a clear and resounding message: Georgia's future is too important to put in the hands of a discriminatory and dishonest cheat like Kemp.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
