306 Days: EMILYs List Recognizes Latina Equal Pay Day

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today EMILYs List released the following statement on Latina Equal Pay Day. Today marks how far into the year Latinas must work to earn what white, non-Hispanic men earned in the previous year for the same work – 306 days. Latinas make on average 54 cents on the dollar compared to white, non-Hispanic men, resulting in a million-dollar loss in income over their lifetime.
                                                             
“Today, we are reminded of the shameful systemic injustices that Latinas face in the workplace,” said EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock. “Latinas are among the worst affected in the country by the wage gap, forcing them to do the same work for nearly twice as long to earn as much as their white male colleagues.”
 
“Time and time again, Donald Trump and the Republican Party have failed to stand up for Latinas and their families. Bowing to powerful corporate interests, they have rolled back critical workplace protections and consistently stood in the way of progress. Now, Latinas are joining with other women across the country to make their voices heard – including over 20,000 women who have signed up to run for office.”
 
“Paycheck and workplace equality will only be possible when we elect progressive fighters like Michelle Lujan Grisham, Veronica Escobar, Hala Ayala, and Elizabeth Guzman. EMILYs List is committed to standing with them as they join ranks with trailblazers like Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto.”
