268 Days: EMILYs List Recognizes Native American Women’s Equal Pay Day

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today EMILYs List released the following statement on Native American Women’s Equal Pay Day. This date marks how far into the year Native American women must work to earn what white, non-Hispanic men earned in the previous year for the same work – 268 days. Native American women make 58 cents on the dollar, a nearly million-dollar loss in income compared to their white, non-Hispanic male counterparts.
“Today is a sobering reminder of how far we still have to go in overcoming the systemic challenges that Native American women face in the workplace,” said EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock. “Native American women face one of the country’s largest gender wage gaps; this unjust pay discrimination is deeply harmful, impacting hardworking women and their families across the country.
“Instead of supporting Native American women, Donald Trump and the Republican Party have further cemented this discrimination by rolling back Obama-era workplace protections and actively impeding future progress. EMILYs List is working to turn the tide back toward growing equality – by electing progressive fighters who will fight for women, not against them.”
