Department: Campaigns
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Federal and Gubernatorial Campaigns intern’s primary responsibility is to support the efforts of the Federal and Gubernatorial Campaigns team in the area of campaign services in races across the country at the House, Senate, and Governorship levels. The F&G Campaigns intern works closely with the Campaigns Assistant to provide general support to the Campaigns department, the VP of Campaigns, and our EMILYs List candidates. The F&G Campaigns intern will see first-hand the planning and implementation of EMILYs List’s support for their candidates.
TIME COMMITMENT:
General EMILYs List operating hours are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm ET. This department is looking for both full time and part time interns. Minimum time commitment is 14 hours per week.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Maintain the EMILYs List Job Bank;
- Maintain the recent contact information of Job Bank users including e-mail lists and process resume requests as necessary or requested;
- Assist with researching possible donors and their backgrounds as requested by EMILYs List campaigns;
- Assist with vetting possible EMILYs List recruits;
- Assist with retrieval of candidate and opponent FEC filings and background research as necessary;
- Provide general staff support to all members of the campaigns department;
- Provide organization support as requested or necessary.
Department: Campaigns
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The State and Local Campaigns department assists candidates on the non-federal level. The State and Local team trains and provides candidate services to candidates and staff across the country. The intern’s primary responsibility is to support the efforts of the department as outlined below. In addition, interns are offered the opportunity to be exposed to other organization activities as requested or necessary.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Organize and maintain candidate information files and State and Local database;
- Assist with Get Out the Vote efforts when opportunities present themselves;
- Communicate with state and local candidates and aid them with donor research and administrative tasks;
- Compile and write background research on non-federal candidates and races;
- Provide general staff support to all members of the State and Local Campaigns department;
- Provide organization support as requested or necessary.
Department: Campaigns Research
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Research interns are responsible for assisting the Campaigns Research Team with long-term and immediate research projects, both for internal use and for the benefit of EMILYs List candidates and campaigns. Campaigns Research interns will receive training on political research methods and will continue developing those research skills over the course of the semester. Frequent projects include background research on candidates, preparing memos on state issues, and tracking legislation.
TIME COMMITMENT:
General EMILYs List operating hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. This department is looking for full-time and part-time interns. Minimum time commitment is 14 hours per week.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Prepare candidate and opponent background research memos;
- Write state-specific issue memos;
- Assist in fulfilling information requests from other EMILYs List departments;
- Retrieve reports including FEC filings as well as news clips on a regular basis and as necessary;
- Work with the research team to maintain and update research files and archives;
- Provide organizational support as requested or necessary.
Department: Communications
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The communications intern assists in all aspects of the communications department, including briefing staff on daily news; organizing and distributing campaign news and clips; compiling and maintaining press lists; and assisting with drafting of press materials and communications research. The communications intern works closely with the Communications Assistant.
TIME COMMITMENT:
General EMILYs List operating hours are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm ET. The Comms department generally operates from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. This department is looking for both full time and part time interns. Minimum time commitment is 14 hours per week.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Prepare daily press clips from national and local news outlets for the organization and campaigns;
- Assist with drafting of press materials like releases, advisories, weekly news roundups and communications research;
- Assist with creating communications materials for conferences and other organizational events;
- Work with communications department to create and maintain press lists;
- Provide general staff support to the communications department;
- Research new outlets, reporters, podcasts, and other media sources;
- Provide organizational support as requested or necessary.
Candidates fluent in Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.
Department: Data & Technology
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The data and analytics intern assists with the collection and analysis of political data for EMILYs List. The data and analytics intern will help the Digital Analytics Manager with data entry, data analysis, reporting, scripting, and assisting with other projects.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Experience using Excel, R, SQL, Stata, Python, Bash or experience with statistics/quantitative methods is useful but not required. Training will be provided;
- Assist with the analysis and presentation of data;
- Provide general support to all members of the tech department, and organizational staff as requested or necessary;
- Assist with the flow of data across databases;
- Help with daily fundraising updates;
- Provide personalized datasets to various departments;
- Assist with the brainstorming, prioritization, execution, and analysis of A/B test results for email and website optimizations.
Department: Digital
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The design intern is an integral part of the digital team at EMILYs List. Our designers are responsible for presenting a cohesive brand across digital and print platforms. From creating and editing digital graphics to assisting with interdepartmental work and contributing to design brainstorms — the design intern is involved in content creation and distribution. Interns will have the opportunity to expand their design skills, learn new ones, and leave with a portfolio of work that has been used across EMILYs List platforms. We welcome interns of basic to intermediate skills, but interns with deep knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign are highly preferred. Interns should be able to follow templates and create innovative new graphics within an established visual brand identity. The graphic design intern should have a passion for helping elect Democratic pro-choice women.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Create graphics for new endorsements;
- Assist with social media graphic creation for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more;
- Learn from an experienced designer how to create graphics across digital platforms including email and SMS from one of the most lauded email graphic programs in the progressive space;
- Participate in photo selection and editing across platforms;
- Participate in weekly digital team content brainstorms;
- Collaborate with designers on special assignments (such as merchandise);
- Provide organizational support as necessary.
*Interns interested in the design internship must submit at least two pieces from their portfolio.
Department: Digital
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The digital intern is an integral part of our department’s programs. From email fundraising to social media outreach to merchandise — the digital intern is involved in every step of content creation and distribution across multiple platforms. Interns will have the opportunity to conduct research, draft copy, and work on website pages. We welcome interns of every skill level, and interns will be given the opportunity to learn or build upon their HTML skills and experience with a website content management system.

- Help write website copy;
- Assist with social media outreach on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more;
- Assist with the email program by proofreading and testing emails and helping manage a weekly email program;
- Participate in weekly digital team content brainstorms;
- Participate in and/or manage special assignments (such as research or merchandise);
- Provide organizational support as necessary.
Department: Events
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Events intern will gain invaluable experience learning and planning a wide-range of EMILYs List events. Interns assist the Events team by doing venue research, drafting invitations, tracking event RSVPs, and managing the Events inbox. They also have potential opportunity to assist on site at some events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Help with event logistics including emails, invitations, and other materials;
- Draft event emails and invitation letters for event outreach;
- Work to track event RSVPs and registration for large and small events;
- Research and contact potential event venues;
- Potential for opportunities to assist on site at events with registration, set up, etc;
- Work closely with other departments on event logistics and planning;
- Provide general staff support to the Events Department and team members;
- Assist with post event tasks and follow ups;
- Provide organizational support as requested or necessary.
Department: Executive & Administration Office
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive and Administration intern provides day-to-day support for both the Executive and Administration departments.
The Executive and Administration intern works closely with the Finance and Administration Assistant to help prepare and track information for candidate and internal compliance purposes. Interns also the Executive team prepare Senior Leadership for various events and travel by preparing itineraries and drafting briefings.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Assist with check processing procedures in order to meet FEC compliance requirements;
- Assist with compilation and transmittal of donor information to campaigns;
- Assist with donor correspondence;
- Assist the human resources director with various projects;
- Assist in arranging travel logistics and producing itineraries for the Executive Office;
- Screen all speaking requests and meeting requests for the Executive Department;
- Receive and pay all necessary invoices for the Executive Office;
- Handle all expense reimbursements for the Executive Office;
- Assist in compiling all briefing materials for all trips, speeches, and meetings;
- Assist in the preparation of EMILYs List Board Meetings;
- Manage Executive Office’s incoming mail;
- Maintain Executive Office’s filing system;
- Provide general staff support to the Executive Department;
- Provide organizational support as requested or necessary.
Department: Development
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising interns provide support for the Major Gifts department, a national team of EMILYs List’s high- dollar solicitors. The fundraising internship will acquaint the intern with the core principles of non-profit and political fundraising and prepare them for a career in those fields. Interns assist the Major Gifts team by conducting prospecting research, maintaining the donor database, and facilitating donor stewardship.
TIME COMMITMENT:

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Assist the Major Gifts Coordinator with call time preparation, including call sheets and follow up;
- Responsible for maintaining high dollar donor filing system;
- Assist Major Gifts Assistant in generating acknowledgements;
- Assist Major Gifts team with working on, preparing, and sending out high dollar, in-house mailings;
- Complete donor research on current and prospective donors;
- Update current and prospective donor profiles in database;
- Provide general staff support to the Major Gifts Department and team members;
- Provide organizational support as requested or necessary.
Department: Women Vote
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Women Vote is the voter mobilization arm of EMILYs List. The department conducts independent expenditure campaigns to educate women voters through TV, radio and online advertising, as well as direct mail and personal voter contact. The Women Vote intern’s primary responsibility is to support the research efforts of the Women Vote department as outlined below. In addition, interns are offered the opportunity to be exposed to other organization activities as requested or necessary.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Assisting in the preparation of research memos on EMILYs List candidates and opponents;
- Tracking relevant news articles and all public communications from targeted campaigns, including press releases, e-mails, TV and radio ads;
- Monitoring and compiling all public polling in EMILYs List races;
- Researching voting rules, regulations and timelines in key states;
- Providing general administrative support to the Women Vote department.
Department: Marketing & Membership
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing and Membership interns assist in the production of all aspects of EMILYs List direct mail and telemarketing solicitations, while gaining an insider’s view on the marketing and fundraising of one of the nation’s largest political action committees. Interns assist the Marketing team by reviewing layout and content choices related to direct mail and telemarketing projects. They provide membership support by responding to inquiries from donors and community members, coordinating membership outreach and acknowledgment projects, and assisting with database updates.
TIME COMMITMENT:
General EMILYs List operating hours are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm ET. This department is looking for both full time and part time interns. Minimum time commitment is 14 hours per week.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Track and maintain membership communications via telephone, email, and postal mail;
- Aid in the marketing production process as needed: drafting and editing written content;
- Sustain communication with the Friends of EMILY monthly donors and track donor requests;
- Maintain database integrity in Raiser’s Edge and EveryAction systems;
- Assist with tracking expenses for direct mail and telemarketing campaigns;
- Manage, track, and organize all in-house inventory of collateral and stationery;
- Maintain archives of all direct mail and printed material including detailed project records;
- Provide general assistance and administrative support to all members of the marketing department as needed;
- Provide organizational support as requested or necessary.
Department: Communications Research
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications research interns are responsible for assisting with rapid-response requests and vetting both for internal and external EMILYs List projects, social media, and events. Communications research interns will receive training on the symbiotic relationship between political research and communications with campaigns, the press, and national partners. The communications research interns work closely with the Fact Checking Coordinator and the Senior Director, Research Communications.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Assist with meticulous, detail-oriented fact-checking of internal content received from other departments;
- Help build and maintain trackers to facilitate cross-organizational communication;
- Complete thorough research and vetting of individuals and venues using tools such as LexisNexis and America Votes;
- Track relevant trends seen in news articles and public communications from EMILYs List-endorsed candidates and partners;
- Assist in fulfilling information requests from other EMILYs List departments;
- Work with both the communications and campaigns research teams to maintain and update research files and archives;
- Provide organizational support as requested or necessary.
