EMILY's List Endorses Nanette Diaz Barragán for Re-Election in California's 44th District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Nanette Diaz Barragán for re-election in California’s 44th District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Nanette Diaz Barragán has spent her career breaking down barriers and defying the odds. Before becoming the first Latina elected to represent California’s 44th District, she was the first Latina elected to the Hermosa Beach City Council and the first Latina to become mayor of Hermosa Beach. During her time in Congress, Nanette has been a strong voice for working women and families and has consistently pushed back against Republicans’ discriminatory policies. 

“In a time when Republicans are failing to stand up to Donald Trump, Nanette has proven that she is a powerful voice of resistance. The people of California’s 44th District deserve a leader and fighter who won’t back down, and Nanette Diaz Barragán has proven to be just that. EMILYs List is proud to support her re-election campaign.”

The daughter of a factory worker and a TV repairman, Nanette Diaz Barragán grew up near Carson, CA, the youngest of 11 kids. Nanette’s parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico before she was born. Driven by a commitment to helping hardworking families in communities like hers, Nanette has dedicated her career to public service — from working for the NAACP to help address inequalities in health care to her work as a pro bono Spanish-speaking adoption attorney. She became the first Latina ever elected to the Hermosa Beach City Council, and served as the city’s first Latina mayor prior to successfully running for Congress in 2016.
