EMILYs List Endorses Val Hoyle for Oregon Labor Commissioner
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Val Hoyle for Oregon's Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries. Lucinda Guinn, vice president of campaigns at EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Val Hoyle is a problem solver who gets things done. As a former union member, small business owner, and legislative leader, she is uniquely qualified for the job of labor commissioner. As majority leader of the House, she passed an agenda that moved Oregon forward, including a billion additional dollars for public schools, increased investment in infrastructure projects, paid sick days and a higher minimum wage. In addition to her leadership role in Salem, Val spent twenty-five years in the private sector.”
“Val understands the value of small businesses and knows what they need to grow and will work with labor and business to build a strong economic future for all of Oregon.”
Val served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2009 to 2017, representing House District 14, including West Eugene and Junction City. She was elected House majority leader and shepherded an impressive agenda that spurred economic growth and increased funding for education.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
