EMILYs List Recognizes Women’s History Month
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, released the following statement recognizing Women’s History Month:
“In this moment of unprecedented leadership and action we honor the remarkable accomplishments of women throughout history. Driven by the anti-woman agenda embraced by the GOP, women across the country are standing up and fighting back. Since 2017, we’ve seen millions march for progress and their rights all across the country. Tens of thousands have raised their hand and said they want to run for office and they are doing it and winning. They are leading a sea change in our nation's history that will change politics as we know it.”
“More women are running because they want to create a society where women and girls have rights, respect, and a seat at tables of power. This persistence should serve as a reminder to anyone who doubts the strength of women that we will fight back when our rights are under attack. EMILYs List is proud to support the strong, pro-choice Democratic women who will create lasting systemic change in this country. With record-breaking numbers of women pursuing positions of leadership and power, there is more to celebrate in Women's History Month 2018.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
