EMILYs List Statement on the Anniversary of Griswold v. Connecticut

June 6, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tomorrow marks the anniversary of Griswold v. Connecticut, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that affirmed the constitutional right to privacy and made it legal for married couples to use birth control. This case set the stage for more rights around privacy and personal decisions, including later cases that expanded access to birth control beyond married couples.. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement to mark the anniversary:

“Six decades later and our right to contraception is back under attack. Trump and his MAGA allies aren’t just trying to restrict access to birth control —  they are intent on robbing Americans of their bodily autonomy by criminalizing all reproductive health care.

“Republicans will stop at nothing to control our bodies and our lives. The Griswold anniversary is yet another stark reminder that we can never stop fighting for what we believe in. This isn’t just the fight of our generation, it’s the fight of our lifetime. We cannot go back, we will not back down, and at EMILYs List, we will not rest until the Republicans who try to rob us of essential health care are voted out of office.”
