November 14, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates 11 Democratic pro-choice women on their victories to the Wisconsin state Legislature. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate each of these candidates on their victories. By electing and reelecting these women, Wisconsin took a critical step in safeguarding our fundamental freedoms by breaking the Republican supermajority in the state Senate and protecting the governor’s veto power in the Assembly. We look forward to continuing the fight for reproductive freedom in the state and building power with these new, fair maps.”

EMILYs List congratulates the following candidates on their victories:

  • Jodi Habush Sinykin, WI-SD08
  • Sarah Keyeski, WI-SD14
  • Kristin Alfheim, WI-SD18
  • Karen DeSanto, WI-AD40
  • Brienne Brown, WI-AD43
  • Joan Fitzgerald, WI-AD46
  • Assemblymember Lee Snodgrass, WI-AD52
  • Assemblymember Lori Palmeri, WI-AD54
  • Assemblymember Jodi Emerson, WI-AD91
  • Assemblymember Jill Billings, WI-AD95
  • Tara Johnson, WI-AD96

This cycle, EMILYs List made over $100,000 in contributions to Wisconsin legislative candidates, caucuses, and the state party as a sign of our ongoing commitment to building Democratic majorities in this state.

EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm, Women Vote, invested $150,000 in helping flip SD08 and SD14 by highlighting the incumbents’ anti-abortion records. These wins will lay the groundwork for flipping the Senate in future cycles.

EMILYs List has also supported Habush Sinykin, Snodgrass, Palmeri, Emerson, and Johnson in previous elections to the Wisconsin state Legislature. EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
