EMILYs List Responds to CBO Score of Trump’s Threats to “Let Obamacare Implode”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released its report on the impact of freezing key payments that help lower out-of-pocket costs for those insured through the marketplace, which Donald Trump has threatened to halt. In response, Emily Cain, executive director of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“The Congressional Budget Office didn’t mince words: if acted on, Donald Trump’s repeated threats to 'let Obamacare implode' would increase premiums by twenty percent, hurting millions of Americans in the process. Does the president care? Apparently not. Trump would rather let countless women and families suffer than work to strengthen our nation’s health care system.”
“In this time of turmoil, with a White House in disarray and a president more interested in re-tweeting alt-right conspiracy theorists than helping Americans, people are looking for leadership. But Republicans like Dean Heller and Jeff Flake let Donald Trump do whatever he wants – betraying the people they were elected to represent. Nevadans and Arizonans deserve true leaders, not so-called moderates who rubber stamp the radical agenda of this out-of-control president.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
