EMILYs List Congratulates 10 Democratic Pro-Choice Women on their Victories to the New Mexico State Legislature

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates 10 Democratic pro-choice women on their victories to the New Mexico state Legislature. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

These leaders have shown their commitment to fighting for our reproductive freedoms and for the well-being of New Mexicans. Today, we witnessed the groundbreaking election of Cindy Nava, Michelle Paulene Abeyta, Anita Gonzales, and Angel Charley who have made history in their respective districts. EMILYs List is honored to have supported all of these women and look forward to all they will accomplish while in office.”

Today, Abeyta and Charley became the first women to serve in their seats. Abeyta is also the first Indigenous person elected to represent HD-69, a majority Native American district. Gonzales became the first woman and woman of color to represent HD-70 since 1970. Nava is one of the first Dreamers (DACA recipients) in the country to win elected office.
