FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Laura Gillen on her victory in New York’s 4th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Laura Gillen on flipping New York’s 4th Congressional District and defeating anti-choice extremist Rep. Anthony D’Esposito. Her election today is one of the critical wins in preventing Republican extremists from passing a national abortion ban. We know she will be a tireless fighter for New York women and families, and we are proud to have supported her through this election.”

Laura Gillen is a mom, former Hempstead Town supervisor, and former litigator. In 2017, Gillen was elected to serve as Hempstead Town supervisor, she managed America’s largest township, her birthplace, and the township where she is raising her family. Gillen graduated from Georgetown University and New York University’s School of Law, after which she began practicing commercial litigation. Gillen has also participated in a pro bono program where she represented victims of domestic violence. As town supervisor of the largest township in the United States, Gillen worked with leaders from both parties to invest more than $50 million to fix roads, lower taxes, support veterans, and pass good governance measures. EMILYs List supported Gillen in 2022 for her election to the U.S. House of Representatives.

The EMILYs List community also contributed nearly $270,000 for Laura Gillen this cycle.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
