Schriock: “Women Cannot and Should Not Ever Trust Dean Heller With Their Health Care”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List took on Nevada Senator Dean Heller for his long history of undermining affordable health care access and reproductive care for women. Despite his very recent, entirely self-serving opposition to the cruel Republican Senate health care bill, Heller has and continues to be a major obstacle when it comes to women accessing the care they need. In response, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“At a time when Nevada’s women need a champion in the Senate, Dean Heller has continued to be utterly spineless. His empty declaration of opposition actually left the door wide open to flip-flopping and supporting the devastating Republican health care bill. Nevadans know the truth: that Dean Heller has long supported ending Medicaid expansion. With maternity care, reproductive health care access, and Planned Parenthood funding on the line, women don’t need a light, politically motivated rebuke from Heller. They need a real leader, who will fight to protect health care for millions of Nevadans. Heller has never been and will never be the Senator they need. Women cannot and should not ever trust Dean Heller with their health care.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to help more women run at the local, state, and national levels.
