FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Sen. Maria Cantwell on her reelection to the U.S. Senate. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs list is thrilled to congratulate Sen. Maria Cantwell on her reelection to the U.S. Senate representing Washington state. Sen. Cantwell is committed to fighting for our reproductive rights and is a dedicated supporter of women and families. She has shown that she will go above and beyond to protect our fundamental freedoms and our democracy. We know she will continue to work on behalf of Washingtonians and deliver results for all Americans.”

EMILYs List supported Sen. Maria Cantwell’s U.S. House races in 1992 and 1994 as well as her U.S. Senate races in 2000, 2006, 2012, and 2018.

Sen. Cantwell has been a strong defender of civil rights throughout her career. Known for her efforts to protect marriage equality and prohibit racial profiling, her commitment to equality is apparent through her legislative actions. Sen. Cantwell was also a major proponent of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. In addition to these vitally important issues, Sen. Cantwell has been a forceful defender of reproductive rights.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
