EMILYs List: Path to Victory Runs Through Women Voters

August 20, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As Democrats gather for their 2024 convention, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, released new research making the case for how women will decide and win this election at every level of the ballot. EMILYs List’s independent expenditure, Women Vote, also announced an expanded investment to mobilize women voters in key battleground states.

As an organization that has helped elect more than 1,700 women over nearly 40 years, EMILYs List has extensive expertise in winning elections, particularly with women voters. Our organization has done significant research on what moves women, as well as the best way to communicate on reproductive rights. In the strategy deck, EMILYs List outlines the findings from our latest research and how women voters, driven by abortion rights, will be the key to Vice President Harris winning the White House.

EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“There is a fundamental underestimation of how dramatically the landscape has shifted since the Dobbs decision. By overturning Roe v. Wade and attacking our abortion rights, Republicans sparked outrage in women across the country–and that outrage has not dissipated. At the same time, Vice President Harris has brought a vision for the future that offers those same women hope and optimism, because they trust her to restore our rights and protect our freedoms. Vice President Harris has electrified women voters across the country, in particular young women, who are the key to winning the White House.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
