EMILYs List and Partners to Host Major Candidate Training on January 22nd as Part of National Recruitment Effort
Training for approximately 500 women interested in running for office will take place the day after the Women’s March on Washington
WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, today announced that it will hold a candidate training on January 22nd for approximately 500 women interested in running for office who will be attending the Women’s March on Washington. The training will be hosted by EMILYs List in partnership with the Latino Victory Fund, the Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute, the New American Leaders Project, Higher Heights for America, and Emerge America. It will take place in downtown Washington, D.C. and is part of EMILYs List’s national effort to recruit, train, and elect Democratic women to office at all levels of government.
In 2016, EMILYs List successfully helped elect four new women to the United States Senate and eight new women to the House of Representatives, making this Congress the most diverse in U.S. history. The organization has signed on as an official sponsor of the Women’s March on Washington and will be holding this training to channel the excitement and energy of women in Washington, D.C. and across the country into action.
“We are thrilled to partner with national progressive allies to train our future women leaders,” said EMILYs List President Stephanie Schriock. “Women are watching the Trump presidency and Congress, and we’re going to be ready from day one to stand up against the GOP’s dangerous agenda. That starts with marching and continues with recruiting and electing more Democratic women to offices across the country.”
The candidate training will be available to women interested in running for office on a first-come, first-served basis. Women interested in participating in the training can enter to sign up here.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $400 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making it one of the most successful political organizations ever. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have trained over 9,000 women to run and helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 700 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color – including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic congresswoman currently serving.
