EMILYs List Endorses Susie Lee for Reelection in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Susie Lee for reelection in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to re-endorse Susie Lee to represent the people of Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. Rep. Lee’s leadership exemplifies everything that EMILYs List stands for, and her faithful service in Congress during a time when anti-choice extremism threatens to take away our rights will ensure that Nevadans and all Americans truly have a pro-choice champion fighting for them in Washington.”
Rep. Susie Lee is a proven leader who has dedicated her career to helping her fellow Nevadans lead better, safer, and healthier lives. She serves in Congress to continue her life’s work of bringing people together to find and implement innovative solutions to the toughest problems facing Nevada’s families. Lee grew up the sixth of eight children in a working-class community. She learned the values of hard work and stretching a dollar, starting with a paper route at the age of eight. After graduating from public schools, Lee worked her way through Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh with a combination of scholarships, loans, and part-time jobs. She found mentors who gave her the affirmation and encouragement she needed to succeed as a young woman. After moving to Las Vegas in 1993, Lee became the founding director of After-School All-Stars, which serves over 7,000 students every day after school. She went on to serve as president of Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS), a leading dropout prevention organization that grew in size and impact under her leadership. As a member of Congress, Lee is fighting for Nevada’s 3rd District students every day.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
