EMILYs List Congratulates State Sen. Bridget Valverde and Victoria Gu on their Successful Rhode Island State Senate Races
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Victoria Gu (RI-SD38) and state Sen. Bridget Valverde (RI-SD35) on their election and reelection to the Rhode Island state Senate. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List congratulates Victoria Gu and state Sen. Bridget Valverde on their election and reelection to the Rhode Island state Senate. Valverde is a distinguished leader with a proven track record of fighting for every Rhode Islander, while Gu brings energizing plans to address the obstacles her hometown faces and has made history as the first AAPI woman elected to the Rhode Island General Assembly. We’re eager to see what these two pro-choice champions accomplish together in the Rhode Island General Assembly.”
Bridget Valverde currently serves in the Rhode Island state Senate and is the vice chair of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services. She is also a member of the Committee on Environment & Agriculture. Her background is in the nonprofit sector where she has worked to expand access to health care for children, families, and seniors and has helped animal welfare organizations. She also actively works as a substitute teacher in North Kingstown Schools. Valverde lives in North Kingstown, Rhode Island with her husband, two sons, and their family pug.
Victoria Gu is a daughter of immigrants and the chair of Charlestown’s Climate Resiliency Commission, and will represent the district where she was raised in the Rhode Island state Senate. Gu graduated from Harvard University and went on to work in the tech industry in Silicon Valley. During the pandemic, Gu realized the importance of community and moved back to her hometown in Senate District 38. She plans on addressing the rising costs of living, advocating for reproductive rights, and a healthy environment in the state Senate.
