WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard on winning reelection in her New Mexico public lands commissioner race. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
 
“Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard is a trailblazer dedicated to preserving New Mexico’s environment for generations to come, while ensuring that resources generated by the state's public lands flow into public schools. Even during a global pandemic, Garcia Richard was able to bring in over a billion dollars every year she has been in office for the state. The first Latina and woman to serve in the role, Garcia Richard has a proven record of putting New Mexicans first, and we are thrilled to see this trailblazer continue in the role.” 
 
Stephanie Garcia Richard is the first woman, Latina, and educator to serve as New Mexico’s Commissioner of Public Lands. Born in Tucumcari, N.M. and raised in Silver City, N.M., she graduated from Silver High School before attending Barnard College. In 2012, she was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives where she championed education, renewable energy, job training, and economic development. She was first elected as land commissioner in 2018.
