EMILY’S LIST CELEBRATES LGBTQ+ HISTORY MONTH

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, honors the beginning of LGBTQ+ History Month, and we commemorate the impact that the LGBTQ+ community has had on our country. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement: 
 
“At EMILYs List, we honor the LGBTQ+ community. EMILYs List is proud to support groundbreaking LGBTQ+ candidates who are bound to make history, such as Tina Kotek and Maura Healey, who are both poised to be the first openly lesbian governors in the nation; Celia Israel, who is poised to be the first openly gay Latina to serve as the mayor of Austin, Texas; Erin Maye Quade, who will be one of the first openly LGBTQ+ women to serve in the Minnesota state Senate if elected. 
 
“While we continue to rally behind our trailblazing candidates for the 2022 midterm elections, we honor the extraordinary women who have paved the way for LGBTQ+ representation within politics, such as Tammy Baldwin, the first openly gay woman to serve in the U.S. Congress; Rep. Sharice Davids, the first openly LGBTQ+ person to represent the state of Kansas in Congress; Danica Roem, the first openly transgender person elected to serve in a U.S. state legislature; and Dana Nessel, the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to a statewide office in Michigan. At EMILYs List, we are proud to stand with these groundbreaking candidates and many more, as they will ensure that everyone is both treated and represented fairly in government.”
